Fuurin

When Japanese people hear the sound of wind chimes or insects at night,
they often feel, “How beautiful,” or “How delicate.”
But when I asked a person from another country,
they said, “Hmm, it just sounds like noise to me.”
I was surprised.
Different cultures really change how we hear things.
For Japanese people, these sounds are not just sounds.
They are important signs of the season.
This kind of feeling is a special part of Japanese culture.
In Japanese, wind chimes are called fuurin (風鈴).
They are often made of glass, and their soft sound tells us that summer is coming.
Many countries have decorations that make sound in the wind.
But Japanese fuurin are special.
We enjoy not only the sound, but also the feelings and the sense of season that come with it.
When we hear fuurin, we feel calm, a little nostalgic,
and we think, “Ah, summer is here.”
☜ 風鈴 of ours😖
By the way, we also have a fuurin at my dental clinic.
But… to be honest, ours goes “チャリリ~~ン, チャリチャリ、チャンチャンチャンチャン!!” and is kind of noisy💦💦
